West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to a crash on southbound Interstate 5 this afternoon around 1:30 p.m.  A semi-truck crashed into the median, blocking all lanes of traffic for approximately 30 minutes.

Two other vehicles, a small sedan and a motorhome, collided into the semi after it hit the median.  Two people were transported to the hospital, one with serious injuries, and the other with minor.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) diverted all southbound Interstate 5 traffic at Berkeley Street off the exit ramp and then back on to Interstate 5. WSP Trooper Guy Gill tweeted at 3:30 this afternoon that all lanes of traffic were re-opened at I-5 and Berkeley.  The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported that northbound Interstate 5 was backed up from milepost 114 near Nisqually to MP 122.68 near Berkeley St.

Because of the substantial backups in both directions on Interstate 5, traffic was heavy at times on Steilacoom-DuPont Road going both directions.
